Rio announces dengue epidemic
Beginning this year, the city recorded 50,016 cases of the disease

The Municipal Health Secretariat announced on the afternoon of Tuesday (24), which records the Rio dengue epidemic. This means that the city has entered astage where there are over 300 cases of illness per 100 thousand inhabitants andthis number is growing. From 1st January to 21 April 2012, there were 50,016cases and 12 deaths from the disease in the city.
In one week, the number of cases in Rio increased by almost 10,000. Theprevious balance sheet, with records through April 14, accounted for 40,252cases.
According to the Municipal Health Secretariat, the outbreak was expected, as announced by Secretary Hans Dohmann, in an interview with Good Day River last week. The secretariat pointed out, however, that while living an epidemic the number of deaths is lower than last year and also the other years when there wasan outbreak of dengue.
They still want to promote the World Cup and the Olympics, will take care of healthof the population that is much more important.
